Saskatchewan’s new cottage industry laws state that anyone with a food safety certificate can sell low risk foods to the public privately and through retail stores. This is so exciting! It gives us all access to better food and more possible income for people out of their homes. See the article below for more info.

The foods listed below are known to be “low risk” and may be processed in a home kitchen and sold directly to the consumer or to a retail or wholesale establishment that does not prepare or process food for sale.

 Baked goods/desserts without cream, custard, or meat fillings, e.g. cakes, squares, cookies, fruit pies, pastries

 Pickled vegetables made with salt and vinegar, i.e. cucumbers, peppers, beets, carrots, green tomatoes and onions (pH 4.6 or less)

 Relish (pH 4.6 or less)

 Honey, jam, jelly and applesauce

 Wine and herb vinegar

 Dry noodles that do not contain eggs

 Dried grains, seeds, herbs, and spices

 Cereals, granola, trail mixes

 Fudge, candy, cotton candy, syrup, toffee and chocolate

 Popcorn, popcorn balls

 Dried fruits

 Dry baking mixes

 Mustard

 Candied apples

 Dried or dehydrated vegetables

 Dried vegetarian-based soup mixes

 Vegetable and potato chips

 Ground chocolate

 Seasoning salt

Please consult with your local public health inspector if you wish to prepare or process any other food item that is not on the list but you believe it to be low risk.

Currently at The Wandering Market we are looking for:

-Jams and jellies - honey sweetened

-Pre made meals made only with whole food ingredients and meats from small, ethical farms (no margarine, preservatives, etc.)

-BBQ sauces with whole food ingredients

-Spice Mixes

-Organic grains that are completely cleaned, bagged and ready to go

-Pastured eggs with nice dark yolks

If you would like to become a Producer, you can read about us and how we operate. We take local food seriously and ask that everyone else does too. Please read about our standards and what we are looking for.

For example, we only want meats that are truly free ranged and baked goods without artificial additives, corn syrup, margarine, etc.

We understand people being new to business and are here to help.
