I keep reminding myself that we are in the hardest time right now. The building stage and bringing it to life stage.
This is the time when you question what you’re doing and if it’s right and if people will like it and find value in it and if they might criticize your run on sentences…
During this building we’ve had so many disruptions that have slowed us down. Some events have been absolutely life shattering. It really feels like this wants to happen. With every set back came a helper and an answer that reminded us to keep going and why this was so important.
This is the time where we are really discovering what we are capable of and how far our passions can take us. And it not just us, it’s also the many people that have come to lend a hand and all the customers as well. Every time someone comes in and purchases from us, it goes directly to supporting the building of this massive food hub.
I’ve been thinking about those words a lot and what they mean: FOOD HUB.
While local seems to be trendy right now, this really isn’t what it’s about. It’s about being able to store, process and distribute the abundance of what Saskatchewan is producing for food. It’s about the community that comes together to make this happen. It’s about providing a platform for people to make food and people to have access to it.
I’ve been thinking a lot about how to give people more access to these foods. We have so much here and we aren’t always able to properly display it. We have amazing bulk prices on many of products. If we don’t have to bag it, that save a lot of money.
I want to make these foods super accessible and comparatively affordable! I want people to think of these foods, and us at The Wandering Market as where they get their groceries from. Their sustenance. Their weekly meals. I want you to be able to know we have and have lots of options for getting it.
Part of my dilemma has been how to execute that.
The first way people can get it is through the store which is open 10-6 and 7 days a week. But sometimes we need more than that. I’d like to be able to offer that people order online and can pick up or have it delivered any day of the week. That’s one of the dreams!
The other thing I’m doing is training and scheduling lots of staff so we can be ready to serve you all. We really want to be of help. I love it when people ask me specific questions and I’m able to give an answer.
Thank you everyone for your support. It has been absolutely crucial that people come in and buy eggs. And we also have a huge selection of meats and veggies, honey and grains.
We are getting so close to opening the new market and can’t wait to make the local food grocery shopping experience that much more pleasant and efficient. Then next we can work on some other big projects and one step at a time will lead us to being that big food hub or storing, processing and distributing the garden goods and farm foods.
I’m just coming out of a period of trauma and extreme exhaustion from summers rush mixed in with a baby that doesn’t sleep more than 20 minutes. I feel like I’m waking up to some new magnificence and I’m looking to share it. I’m finding solutions and taking naps and going for massages. I’m feeling cared for by this growing community. I’m hoping that this will be a place for others to do the same. ❤️
